Nutritional products are vital for improving cellular structure and function by supporting the physiological functions of repair, regeneration, and other immune defense mechanisms of the body. I am saying that the body heals itself and nutrition provides the molecules necessary to accomplish this. When this happens, this is not a drug effect, it is normal physiology, in other words the biochemistry of the body is being changed nutritionally and because of this we are not claiming that nutritional products treat cure, or mitigate disease.

Vital nutrients that we nourish our bodies with become the micronutrient building blocks for the new cells made by our bodies on a daily basis. If we have poor nutritional intake the body is still going to make new cells. Think about this, the body will make do with what it has to work with. If your body is starving nutritionally by a lack of essential vitamins and minerals what will be the new cells be made of? Will the micronutrient building blocks needed to make a normal cell magically appear in the structure of the new cell if you are not ingesting the required nutrients?

Over time, the structure of the cells in your body will become increasingly compromised and no longer be able to function like normal cells. Why? Because they are not normal, they are made missing vital nutrients. Over time poor nutritional intake can lead to a situation where a disease state can take hold. This is not rocket science! For example, poor women have many more problems with pregnancies and new born mortality rates than rich women. Why? Rich women have better sources of nutrition.

Nutritional supplements are not drugs. We have to think of them differently. If we approach nutrition like drugs we will be looking for an overnight quick fix. Nourishing our bodies through proper diet and nutritional supplementation is completely different. It is a life style or way of life. Eating is necessary to live. It has been said "we are what we eat." What are you eating?

We need to evaluate if what we are eating is truly nourishment and not simply empty calories devoid of nutritional content.

One of the signers of the Declaration of Independence was, Dr. Benjamin Rush, a physician, educator and politician. Dr. Rush was a member of the Continental Congress and was a member of the Pennsylvania Convention that ratified the US Constitution. He became a professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania , among other things, and was a founder of the first American Antislavery society. Rush Medical College in Chicago is named after him.

In addition to Dr. Rush's stellar career in medicine he had one very insightful idea that he wanted added to the Constitution that unfortunately was not. Dr. Rush believed that the right to Medical Freedom should be etched into the Constitution and was as important as the right to Freedom of Religion. His thoughts were unbelievably accurate given today's political climate. The following is a quote from Dr. Rush's argument before the American Continental Congress:

"Unless we put Medical Freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship....to restrict the art of healing to one class of men, and deny equal privilege to others, will be to constitute the Bastille of Medical Science. All such laws are un-American and despotic, and have no place in a Republic...The Constitution of this Republic should make special privilege for Medical Freedom as well as Religious Freedom."

Unfortunately, the right to medical freedom was not inserted in the Constitution, and today we have the government, medical and pharmaceutical groups working together to limit our medical choices.
